Life’s a Box of Sweets: The Story Behind Our Logo

We’ve always liked that quote. But for us, life hasn’t been a box of chocolates—it’s been a box of mithai, fresh fruit from roadside stalls, slices of homemade cake, and plenty of flavours we’ve come to love (and a few we’ve tried exactly once).

One of us grew up in Sargodha, in the heart of Punjab, where orange groves stretch out under the sun and hospitality is always served with a side of citrus. The other in Marl, a working-class town in western Germany, shaped by industry but never far from a patch of woods or a good bakery to anchor a weekend walk.

We built our life together in Scotland and spent well over a decade calling it home—nesting into its rhythm, collecting recipes, and learning to laugh at all the small things that get lost (and found) in translation.

Now we’re setting out on a new adventure in North Carolina, bringing with us stories, spices, and a shared love of all things homemade.

That’s why our logo shows a box of sweets. Because Desi and Deutsch is about more than food and travel. It’s about what gets packed into a life lived across borders:
A mix of flavours, both familiar and new
The joy of sharing, from kitchen tables to crowded airports
And the sweet, sticky, occasionally spicy mess of learning how to live and grow—together

Each sweet in the box has its own story, just like each place we visit, each dish we make, and each post we share. And we hope that somewhere in that mix, you’ll find something that tastes like home—or like something entirely new.

Desi and Deutsch is about crossing cultures with curiosity, care, and a healthy appetite.

Travel. Taste. Tell. Thrive. Together.
